Just a half hour journey along the road from your base at Thornhall Chalet Retreat, near Inverness, you will find the Culloden Battlefield and visitor centre.
Culloden is the site of the last land battle in the British Isles, when in April 1745 Jacobite forces loyal to Bonnie Prince Charlie were finally defeated by a government army commanded by the Duke of Cumberland.
The visitor centre is an eye-opening experience about life at the time and just how close the Jacobites came to altering the course of British history.
You can walk around the battlefield too - and stand where the soldiers stood and where the Highlanders made their last, fatal, charge towards their enemy.
You will find memorial stones around the battlefield, such as the one pictured here.
